Here’s a thought. Just take the guns out of the stores and they can sell guns in a part that’s adjacent to the regular store that has its own entrance. They can see who’s going in and out and they can have authorized employees that are trained to work in gun and ammunition sales

Yes, because asking gun owners please is totally not gonna cause the opposite reaction. Get ready for a shit ton of people open carrying in Walmart folks.

Because handguns are the primary weapons responsible?

I believe why they make it in that fashion rather than an enforceable rule is they don’t want to make their employees try to confront someone with a gun.

If it’s a posted sign on the store’s entrance, then that public response can be actionable under the law.

If only there was a way to mandate that. Like most stores do with shirts and shoes (oddly not pants...).

Would not it be better to stop selling guns but still sale ammunition. Rather than seeling guns and selling ammunition?

A publicly posted request is the same as an out-and-out prohibition. For all intents and purposes a non-LEO individual cannot carry a firearm into their building, legally, with the posted signage outside their building.

Then the NRA puts out a statement against Walmart for doing something. Screw the NRA and what they say they are the lobbyist for the war machine.

I'm in Arizona and businesses, public buildings, hospitals and the like, often post signs that firearms are NOT ALLOWED inside a building. This is flimsy but a request is much less so.

I always believed Walmart to be all about the NRA and Trump, time will tell.

Because they can't supersede laws, Shaun. Fight the fight, yeah...but you do the most sometimes, man.
-
Really? A store can refuse entry to someone without a shirt or shoes, but they can't refuse entry to someone carrying a gun?
-
It's clear that Wal-Mart isn't in the business of antagonizing customers. Refusing service &/or trespassing folks who are legally open carrying would be antagonistic. Publicly requesting was a big step (for them). It didn't merit applause but belittling it wasn't the move either.
-
They can set up a "check your guns at the door" room. "Thanks for checking your gun, sir. And here's a 10% off coupon for using the service. Sorry for any inconvenience, but we've had so much trouble with teenagers shooting holes in the watermelons."
