Most Americans don't travel overseas so they don't really notice it but if you spend any real time in Asia and Europe you realize the United States has fallen at least an entire generation behind the rest of the world.

We need high speed rail but you can’t just flip a switch and expect it to get done. It’s going to be really hard, and you can expect the airline and car industries to lobby heavily against it.
