To @NYGovCuomo & @AndreaSCousins,
You both said legalizing marijuana was a serious legislative priority this year, but here we are, the final day of the session, with Democrats controlling the whole government, and no bill has passed.
Please get this done. Extend the session.

Here are some of the current New York Senate DEMOCRATS that appear to be NO votes on legalizing marijuana and expunging records.

How much money does the State make levying fines against people caught holding or using marijuana? It can't be as much as they would make taxing it.

CA has had a Dem supermajority for years, and the only things we get done are to intentionally further cripple the working class. Good luck.

As a NYS resident, even though I agree that legalization of marijuana should happen, I am going to push back on two points: 1) Right now historic climate legislation is up for a vote in the Assembly, having just passed the Senate. To me, nothing they do is more important... cont
-
... than getting it done on this climate bill that also addresses those on the frontlines of climate change. 2) Most of the Senators you listed are from Long Island. I should note that, with the current bill allowing an opt-out, both Suffolk and Nassau counties.... cont.
-
..... have stated that they plan to opt out of any legalization. From that perspective, why should any of the Long Island Senators opt to vote for a bill that will ultimately have no effect on Long Island communities?
-
I'll answer that question: Because government isn't just about what people want, it's about respecting the freedoms of non-violent individuals.
-
And I agree that it’s past time that these non-violent offenses should be expunged. That said, with both Suffolk and Nassau counties having said they will opt out, unless there is a clause that releases Long Island prisoners regardless of the counties’ choice, I don’t see... cont
-
... the point of Long Island Senators voting for a bill that ultimately won’t treat Long Island equally.
-
I think the wiping of records is state-wide. It's only commercial sales that have the opt-out. Possession will still be legal on LI too. This is about cops who are very important donors on LI influening politicians because they like arrests and asset seizures.

No wonder people are so sick of both political parties. I want to see action from the Democrats! Don’t delay doing what’s right to start to repair some of the harm done by unjust enforcement of outdated and unnecessary marijuana laws.
