You both said legalizing marijuana was a serious legislative priority this year, but here we are, the final day of the session, with Democrats controlling the whole government, and no bill has passed.
Please get this done. Extend the session.
For the first time in a generation, Democrats control New York's Governorship, Assembly, and Senate.
10 states + DC have now legalized marijuana.
But here we are, with New York in a complete holding pattern.
It's an embarrassment.

1/ It can't just be legalized. It has to be decriminalized. It may sound no different but there is a difference between the two. If you legalize marijuana, you allow it to be used and sold and marketed, sure, but to decriminalize it also includes tackling the social issue that

In truth Shaun, there’s a whole set of criminal justice priorities that should’ve passed the session that didn’t. Not just marijuana. Also solitary confinement. Parole reform. Voting rights for felons. Etc. I’d say it’s been a huge disappointment.
It has indeed. It appears criminal justice reform priorities got pushed to the back burner and are now trying to be crammed into the final day.

The vote isn't gonna happen. They will miss the deadline. This is a failure.
Cuomo just finished setting up an overly-complicated medical dispensary system that underserves and over-charges NY patients. I can’t say I’m surprised he’s dragging his feet. He did the same with the pseudo-medical system.

A percentage of the MRTA tax income absolutely must go toward helping communities of color heal from the injuries the War on Drugs inflicted.
