I love this.
Here is the rest of the speech @ItsRoohaHaghar was scheduled to deliver. Imagine being so afraid of her naming Tamir & Trayvon that they cut off these compassionate and courageous words.

Also, that kind of quick signal and response means that he had to have had a pre-ceremony conversation with the sound tech - whoever they were - and they had to agree to wait and watch for a signal to silence this valedictorian. And then follow through.
-
Yes - and sometimes those events use young techs - like a high school senior. So THEN the question is, was that person an adult agreeing with silencing a person speaking out, or a kid being forced to comply with a superior. Either/or: a gross abuse of power by the principal. UGH.
-
Typically graduation speeches are required to be submitted and approved. It is standard practice to cut the mic when the speech deviated from the approved script. He more than likely was following along in his binder with the speech that was approved.
-
Not justifying his actions, just explaining the process. Once the speech goes off script, it gets cut to prevent who knows what from being said.
-
But then he lied.

What is funny is now her speech is getting way more attention that it would have and he looks like a d*ck lol.
-
Look like someone's high schools going to lose some support after this.

Heard this young lady on
@MorningEdition this morning. In a way, I’m glad admin cut her mic, because otherwise I would not have heard her and her message. Time and again, attempts to silence only serve to amplify. Good luck in your endeavors, Miss Haghar! -
That interview was amazing

Have you heard her interview on NPR's weekend edition? It aired this am and is excellent. I made dick jokes that pissed off my principal during my commencement speech. Not impactful, pointed or mature, but people remember it. She gave these important names the same treatment.
-
I don't know why school administrators still think it's acceptable to try to censor students.
-
Dude, right?!?

That man is not an educator, he is a coward. The voices of the future are and will continue to be heard.

Shameful move by the principal.
-
Horrible! A principal is supposed to set an example. It was a graduation so I’m sure lots of cameras recorded it. What a thing to be famous for

That principle should be fired.
