When a man like Paul Manafort gets sent to jail or prison, it gets real easy to see who actually cares about fair sentencing and prison conditions and who doesn't really care at all. We can't scream for harshness with Manafort - then leniency with our own. Just be consistent.
When we scream for harsher sentencing for our political enemies, just know that when the laws are made for those harsher sentences, that they won't be used on people that look like Paul Manafort. It will be Black & Latino folk, Indigenous folk, and poor people that get those.

They aren't "Political Enemies" Shaun. They are persons who blatantly defied the rule of law. No one considers Manafort a POLITICAL ENEMY. Idk what this sort of reasoning came from but when used it stokes divisiveness in a country already under fire. Do better.

I don't know if ppl wanted harsher sentencing ~ ppl wanted him charged equally to others found guilty of the same crimes. He wasn't. Notoriously, the judge actually said " 'Otherwise 'he led a blameless life"~Such BS fr Judge~ Avoid conflating sentencing w needed prison reforms!

The hell hole that is Rikers should indeed have been shut down decades ago- it's an affront to any civilized nation. Solitary confinement can be mental torture for many prisoners. But apparently the "solitary" that Manafort would face is not, in fact, solitary...
According to a number of articles he would likely be housed with other "special" prisoners in the old infirmary building. 8 cells to a unit with a day room to share. Cells are unlocked. So it is not solitary, rather contact with only 7 other prisoners and a few guards,

I disagree on this one. It's not a bad thing for powerful people like him to experience what their own medicine taste like. Also, exposing people w influence to the horrors of bad policies likely leads to better informed more humane policies thereafter.
