I see the battle for the Democratic nomination about a battle between two generations that see the world VERY differently. It's shocking how differently older voters that are 65+ see the candidates than younger voters that are 18-35. //THREAD
I think the single largest mistake Democratic voters could make would be to choose a nominee that is not liked by young people. And I don't just mean teenagers, but voters 18-35. In 2008, Obama was the choice of the youth, and young people brought their energy to his campaign.
In 2016, more youth voters voted for @BernieSanders than Hillary Clinton & Donald Trump COMBINED. Bernie was far and away the preferred choice of young voters.
But Democrats, ignoring that, instead went with the moderate establishment candidate.
And Trump won 30 states.

When I study what happened this weekend around Europe, mainstream, moderate politicians lost in a MAJOR way. It's not what people want. And without fail, all over Europe, people rejected middle of the road parties and middle of the road politicians. It's historic.
Imagine this... The nation CURRENTLY has active movements for A Green New Deal A $15 minimum wage Medicare For All The end to never-ending wars Major justice reforms Comprehensive immigration reform IMAGINE choosing the nominee for President who doesn't support those things.
That ANYBODY looks at what we are experiencing in this country (and around the world) right now and determines that what we need to do is meet people in the middle is astounding to me. Only a first class level of aloofness could see 2019 and decide to go to the middle.
Sadly, millions of aging baby boomers, 65+, are the least informed voters.

I think the 65+ generation doesn't respect the 18 to 35 generation. Joe Biden told us to "give him a brake". To tell you the truth, It think the 65+ generation has screwed us .

I agree, but I would still caution against choosing a candidate mostly based on charisma or "star power"...with little consideration for their policy-making experience...as a way to appeal to younger voters. If Trump has shown us anything, POTUS is NOT an entry level position.
I'm 50 in two months Biden is the conservative choice but I like Bernie and Mayor Pete as my choices.
If I had to bring the DAE (devil's advocate energy) Obama attracted a lot of young white kids that naturally evolved into being Republicans (as they got married, etc). The millennial cohort is already diverse, but that said, Dems need to attract young voters that will stay Dem.
Bottom line: the Democratic Party nominee should not be another old white man. If it is, that will signal to young & middleaged voters that the Dems are (like the GOP) unwilling to abandon inherited segregationist ideals & reconstruct America for a multicultural society.

The largest mistake would be to elect a candidate who is too old to do the work required of the president. Both Bernie and Biden are too old for the job. Any other Dem candidate would be a better choice.
