Correct. Colin is 31, wasn't that great a QB and been out of football. Drama and baggage for a backup QB is not worth it. Kelliy is 25 with significant upside, and cheap.

Colin fit well in the 49ers system. Led the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance and almost led a historic comeback in said super bowl To say he wasn’t that great a QB goes against his record.

Like you said, he was somewhat successful in the "49ers' system." The offenses of Harbaugh, Tomsula, and Kelly didn't exactly put much on the QBs plates. Run heavy and in Kelly's case more of a college offense. Kap was too inaccurate to be successful in pass heavy offenses.

Somewhat successful gets you into the Super Bowl? That's laughable. His last season he accounted for 18 td's and 7 turnovers. That was on pass happy Chip Kelly's offense and throwing 28 times per game. That would get you a job on about 2/3 of the teams in the NFL.

...and yeah, somewhat successful gets you into a SB. Ask Brad Johnson and Dilfer, who like Kaepernick, rode the backs of great defenses. Only differences are that they WON their Super Bowls and Kap can run. He was good year 1 and even some into his 2nd, but teams caught up.

All of those guys played 12-16 years in the league by the way. There's also guys in the league today who are absolutely TERRIBLE. Say what you want about Kaep, but all the dudes that protested with him have gotten jobs afterward.
