A lot of lies, particularly from @JoeBiden, are being told about the 1994 Crime Bill. He was the primary author of it and advocate for it.
He said this week that it didn't impact mass incarceration.
Watch this scene from 13th where they make clear that it did exactly that.pic.twitter.com/Up4YaSyUp6

@JoeBiden says the 1994 Crime Bill had NOTHING to do w/ states. He's even having his surrogates go out and say the exact same lie. But I need you to hear 1995@JoeBiden. He literally WROTE THE LAWS making sure that states were required to be harsh in order to get funding.pic.twitter.com/eYYRpYgC4DJoe Biden Bragging That States Will Now All Have Mandatory MinimumsThis week Joe Biden said that his 1994 Crime Bill DID NOT IMPACT STATES. It was primarily for the states and he literally wrote the laws making sure states had to follow the law to receive funding.Show this thread -
Yesterday something truly painful happened. A dozen activists wrote me saying they were sick to their stomachs seeing it. The Biden campaign asked
@SymoneDSanders to say that the crime bill only impacted states. At 1:37 the anchor called their bluff.pic.twitter.com/tKupcvBf7SShow this thread -
Watch
@RepBobbyRush He is the congressmen for the South Side of Chicago. Watch him, nearly in tears, say the 1994 Crime Bill was the worst thing to happen to the Black community the past 50 years. And listen to his deep remorse for voting for it.pic.twitter.com/PedaRJjxKE

The Remorse of Congressman Bobby Rush on His Vote for the Crime BillI need you to see this video. It is probably the most honest, most transparent moment you will ever seen from a politician on the true impact of Joe Biden's 1994 Crime Bill. It's honest and painful.Show this thread

Its also about the stance and recognition that mass incarceration has torn apart black and brown families and historic policies have been racist to the core. Leaders who do not acknowledge this do not give me the faith that they will take steps towards restoration of rights.

Biden is going to fall fast. His refusal to acknowledge or apologize for past mistakes and this idea that the GOP will have some sort of epiphany and start bipartisian talks of he wins is ridiculous. How'd that work out for him in 08 to 2016?

Didn’t Bernie support it?
-
Nah. He railed against it... In the end was forced to vote for it because of the violence against women's act had been rolled into it and Vermont desperately needed those funds to deal with domestic violence back then. Its sad though that everything Bernie said would happen did.
-
He still voted for it.

@SenSanders also signed the crime bill. I agree with you that@JoeBiden's defense of this bill to this day is problematic, but the more you criticize other candidates while lauding@SenSanders, the more likely it is that Trump will win again. Vote blue no matter who in 2020. -
Agreed! See above where I note that Biden's defense of it to this day is problematic. That being said, our country will not survive four more years of Trump, so criticizing our Dem candidates too much right now is hurtful to our goals.
