I see some people saying that what Rashida Tlaib said in her interview about Palestinians providing land for Jews escaping the Holocaust was not historically accurate. And I wonder if that means we are now about to actually be historically accurate about that moment?
What Rashida Tlaib said, and it is the absolute truth, is that Palestinians were displaced in a very ugly painful way to provide a homeland for Jewish people seeking refuge from the Holocaust, To deny that painful truth about Palestinian displacement is ahistorical.
We must be able to speak accurately about the rights of Palestinians without being slandered as anti-Semitic. I fight anti-Semitism AND stand up for the human rights and dignity of Palestinians. I track Neo-Nazis as a hobby AND fight against the human rights abuses of Israel.
I mean, her description is indeed inaccurate. Palestinians did not “provide a homeland” to Jews out of some generosity. Since the early 20th century wealthy Europeans settled in Palestine, initially purchased lands from Palestinians, and when they refused, they simply took them.
The Zionist settler-colonialism project was backed by England, whose antisemitic politicians liked the idea of getting rid of Jews from Europe and sending them to the land of Palestine. A lot of financial, military, and logistical support to Israel came from European states.
Let me take a moment to contemptuously sneer at anyone supporting the Klansman in Chief over his denouncement of anyone on planet earth by using an argument about being "historically accurate". These same people essentially erase history at will whenever it suits them.

I disagree with Tlaib. It does not calm me to know that one ethnic cleansing was remedied by another ethnic cleansing.
