I loathe Harvey Weinstein. And Ronald Sullivan is my dear friend. Ronald has helped THOUSANDS of innocent people be exonerated. Not sure any single attorney has done more in the modern era. Sad that Harvard did this. Even horrible people need attorneys.https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/11/us/ronald-sullivan-harvard.html …

I am wondering if it would have made a difference if he were white?

That sounds like you're saying Weinstein might be innocent. How odd.
-
I disagree. I read it as Weinstein is entitled to representation which is the right of every American. I do think Weinstein did all the things that they said he did but he is still due fair process.
-
It's also the right of all the people and staff at Harvard to have and voice their opinions of this attorney's choice to represent him (no one is saying he doesn't deserve representation) and therefore wish to not have him around in the same capacity anymore.

-
If that is the cause they are firing him for, giving representation then I would respectfully disagree. They are absolutely entitled to their opinion, without question, but to fire someone because they are doing their job, that is questionable and frankly concerning.

I find it difficult to accept such superb attorneys defending an individual like HW. They had choices. They could pick better cases that would benefit from their legal talent. Not this one.

But he should not have lost his position.

It’s called the Constitution. We should be proud that everyone is entitled to representation.

No. You’re wrong about this. Let some white old man represent HW. Those of us who have been dealing with thiabshit for thousands of years need allies. Representing HW is not allyship. It’s betrayal. It makes me wonder what skeletons are in his closet? It really does.

If you cannot afford one, one will be appointed to you...I’m quite sure if Mr. Sullivan chose not to represent Mr. Weinstein he would not be left without counsel.

He certainly does. But how would you feel about student/university concerns if say he'd been the chair of a diversity committee and also representing one of the police officers who slammed Lucca's face into the asphalt? My guess is you'd be sympathetic. It's not that different.
-
I hear you but I disagree. Regardless of the crime everyone deserve proper representation.
-
Oh I'm with you on that, everyone deserves representation and it sounds like Sullivan has paid his dues on that front! But can he simultaneously represent Weinstein and provide a safe place for assault victims at HU? *They* say they can't feel safe w/him. Makes sense to me.
-
Is this something they are doing for everyone? Are they dismissing everyone who has represented a police officer at some point since people of color may not feel safe?

He didn't have to take the case.
