For his entire career Ronald Sullivan has represented people that weren’t presumed innocent, but came into the court room presumed guilty. Except they’ve most often been poor and Black. Weinstein is neither. But deserves a defense either way Thank God for fearless attorneys.

Thank you supporting
@ProfRonSullivan. He has been my friend for life and it’s a shame that he is being vilified for doing his job. We can have our opinions but ethics in law matters. We got you Sully.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I can’t be upset about this. He was demoted, not fired. First and foremost, Harvard has to protect its STUDENTS interests first — they PAY tuition. If the paying customers (Read: Students) feel that they don’t want him because of his outside activities, it is what it is

This sets a dangerous precedent for what universities should be doing: exposing people to new ideas, challenging old ones, and preparing their minds for society

Attacking defense attorneys is tantamount to attacking the Constitution itself. Everyone accused of a crime in this country is entitled to legal representation - even Harvey Weinstein. Harvard’s reputation as a world class law school should be tarnished over this decision.

Of course, horrible people need attorneys - even our constitution guarantees it. But still, it is irresistible in our society to take down a Black person with principles. "We" aren't allowed to navigate the murky line of what is "right".

Alan Dershowitz, while a professor at Harvard, represented Claus Von Bulow, who was twice accused of trying to kill his wife. It's not like Harvard law faculty hasn't represented horrible people before....but as you said, even horrible people deserve lawyers.

Unfortunately, it isn't just conservatives who've internalized the idea that courts should be instruments of righteous anger and retribution.

I respect the last line! Other than that not really! He needs an attorney!

The essence of the justice system is everyone- regardless of the crime they're accused of- is entitled to a legal defense. Weinstein may be the literal definition of a monster but that's not an indictment on his attorneys any more than it would be on the attorneys of a terrorist.

More tragic is the poor, who lose everything unrepresented. Harvey has zillions and can hire other attys.

He’s represented both

Agreed. “the noticeable lack of faculty dean presence during critical moments”, not there to wipe noses and give comfy hugs?
