You can literally count on one hand the number of white professional athletes that have protested alongside Black athletes, immigrant athletes, and other athletes of color over the past few years. Most just decided it's just not that big enough of a deal to them.

I wrote this about the divide on the team and the regret some of these white players may feel in the futurehttps://www.thenation.com/?post_type=article&p=313388&preview=true …

It’s actually kinda sad to be this thirsty to go to the White House.

Seems to me that if they really want fast food, they should be able to afford to buy it for themselves.

Yeah. As a (white) Red Sox fan I was disappointed that this visit even happened to have to put players in the position to have to choose to go or not. I don't think this has anything to do with "Boston" but I do think it just confirms that many white ppl are blind

They turn a blind eye. Definitely not blinded to the issues but decidedly choose to ignore them.

"[A]n Elks Club in the team’s former spring training home of Winter Haven, Florida, invited only white players to events, a practice that stopped only in the 1980s."

In this day and age, it’s willful ignorance. That’s really the disturbing part of it all.

History will view it the same as it views the white players that didn’t openly support Jackie Robinson. When the movie is made years from now, I don’t want to hear the tears when these players get openly called out by name. You had your chance and you blew it.

More than many other sports, baseball is truly a team game. Harmony is essential with a 162-game grind. It will be interesting to see if this marks a downward turning point in the season for the Red Sox.

Their unity is lost. But it must be worth the Big Macs.

As a Boston resident, I find the
@RedSox behavior here deeply embarrassing. None of them should have gone to the White House.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
