Meet Kendrick Castillo. Just 3 days from graduating high school, he was an award winning member of his robotics team. In yet another school shooting, he bravely lunged at the shooter to save his classmates, & was shot & killed. Shame on this nation for forcing kids to do this.pic.twitter.com/y9sk3Ha100

With no regard for his own life, Kendrick Castillo charged the school shooters yesterday -giving his classmates time to run & hide & escape. 8 more were still shot. But it cost him his life. I am grieved to my soul that this nation is forcing children to make decisions like this.pic.twitter.com/1Cuxx4nNNv

He chose to sacrifice himself to save his class. He was not forced to do this he choose. He made the ultimate sacrifice to save others. Doesn't make it right but honorable.

The guy with the anime header is claiming that this kid chose to be murdered. Frankly, I’m shocked.

Okay, I'm only stepping on on this b/c it's silly but both points need to be addressed, I'll be muting convo after: Yes, he chose to save them & deserves to be seen as a hero for it, but yes, he shouldn't have HAD to b/c a child shouldn't have to make that choice at all. (Cont'd)

Imagine what a brave young man of this caliber, whose first instinct was to protect others, had to offer the world in the future. Kendrick Castillo will never reach his potential in life and the world will never know what he could've contributed. #STEMshootingpic.twitter.com/v6csqExCar

This is me from the March for Our Lives Protest in DC last year!! Thanks for sharing this photo to this day!! America needs to become pro-life when having the gun debate. Right now the protection of guns are the priority rather than the protection of children in schools.

Trey - I'm so glad you reached out. This is a brilliant sign and your words struck me. I couldn't agree with you more - our children must be the 1st priority. You give me hope that we'll get there... it can't be soon enough. Much love ❤️

Thank you so much for sharing! It was a great quote from Randall Buck. I will keep fighting until change has come. Children’s lives come before a gun. School is the one place where a child should feel completely safe. Kids shouldn’t be afraid to go to school. It’s heartbreaking.

Serious question: Do we run the risk of helping make these school shootings “normal” by celebrating victims as heroes? My fear is that happens by allowing people to take comfort in having a hero to focus on instead of the absolute horror of children being murdered.

No. A dead 18-year-old hero is not normal. Ever. It is the least we can do in calling him a hero, when apparently the least is all we do.

sort of non-sequitur, but we normalize dead 18 and much younger year olds all the time in wars of imperialism
