QUESTION: Right now 500,000 people are in jail that have not been been convicted of a crime. They just cannot afford bail. Are you saying that 500,000 people who are innocent until proven guilty should not be allowed to vote? Because that's the policy in 46 states right now.

People who talk about prison reform need to start with the cash bail system. Too many people lose their jobs, homes and children before even being convicted of a crime because they don't have the $$ for bail.

I truly think everyone should be permitted to vote. The ballot box is an integral power of the people that is fundamental to our ability to check government and insure our best interests are being protected.

That is exactly what they are saying b/c: 1. They've never THOUGHT about it; and yet 2. They will still dig their heels in for their position that prisoners shouldn't be able to vote; b/c 3. They really just don't want to have to think about it. #Bernie2020

For the record that’s 6 times the UK’s entire prison population for those convicted of crimes. Your population is 5 times ours. We’re no less criminally inclined here I’m sure but there are way fewer firearms. Respective criminal justice systems are evidently very different.

@AndrewYang wants to eliminate that policy about cash bail. And I like his voting policy best - the only way someone loses their right to vote - is if the take away someone else's right to vote.

For Conservatives in #TrumpsAmerica, the answer to this question is usually no...when it comes to themselves. But they’d be just fine with this happening to Liberals and/or PoC because they consider such people guilty prima facie of any crime they’re accused of; no trial needed.

They should be let out if not convicted of any crime so they can vote outside of jail, where they never should’ve been held in the first place.

I would argue that the $1000 a month provided by UBI proposed by @AndrewYang would cover some of these cash bails. However, he has a policy specifically on this! https://www.yang2020.com/policies/cashbail/ …pic.twitter.com/RZN93qh5xG

They should be allowed to vote, as should those completely done their sentences. People convicted of a crime serving their sentence should most certainly not be allowed to vote.

How can it possibly be LAW that these people lose their right to vote under these circumstances?!?! I could see an argument made for once a person is CONVICTED - but NOT for simply being in jail because they can't afford bail but are still considered innocent because no trial yet
