Florida knows that most people who owe fines and fees will never pay them off. This law would disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of Floridians, disproportionately people of color.https://theappeal.org/florida-amendment-4-fines-fees-legislation/ …

This law will require voters who owe fines to appear before a judge and ask that their financial obligations be waived or converted to community service. Judges will have sole discretion to decide whether people are worthy of voting.https://theappeal.org/florida-amendment-4-fines-fees-legislation/ …

Fines and Fees Justice Center @FinesandFeesJCReplying to @kira_lerner @GovRonDeSantis and 3 othersTo add to the problem, Florida circuit judges are required to report any waiver of fines and fees and provide an explanation. They tend to be criticized for waiving. This is similar to discouragement of judicial leniency in North Carolina: https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/12/court-fines-north-carolina/548960/ …3 replies 29 retweets 53 likesShow this thread -
A lot of folks are asking me how they can donate to help pay off Floridians' fines and fees. While I admire the sentiment, I will borrow some words from
