I’m not comfortable with censorship...not even for far right wing hate groups....it opens Pandora’s box....what’s next...our rights are slowly slipping away

So now Farrakhan is in the same category as Alex Jones?pic.twitter.com/EdFfv5HNHV

Alex Jones went to Min. Farrakhan's home to interview him so they do have mutual respect for each other.pic.twitter.com/eMRVi7i2KR

This isn't a good thing. Taking away their platform pushes them underground where their hatred can fester and spread where we can't oversee. Such a thing makes it much more difficult for law enforcement to catch them early if they start to advocate violence.
-
Censoring them also turns them into martyrs for their cause, thus emboldening them. The decision to hinder their ability to speak publicly says to them that the powers-that-be are scared and thus means that they're right.
-
Exactly what I came on hear to say; Nothing good ever comes from censorship. The president is just as bad; should we ban him as well?

Should social media monopolies have this much control?
-
Not sure if the irony of using Twitter to call Facebook/Instagram ‘monopolies’ was intentional...
-
It's not about the user. User doesn't haven't control of the policies being made or implemented. That's my point. I'm talking about systemic structure.
-
Users have absolute control to use a particular platform or not. If you want to follow an outspoken bigot, you can do so on their own website, podcast, Twitter, or other platforms. Facebook & Instagram are popular, but not monopolies for social media.

Isn’t this just selective censorship? I can’t stand the tripe these guys spew, but I can’t stand a lot of shite all sides spew. Who gets to decide what’s acceptable? The anti- nut bars or the pro-?
-
Instagram and Facebook, I suppose... It's their platform....
