"So if Bernie Sanders wants to get involved in a conversation about whether Dylann Roof & the marathon bomber should have the right to vote, my focus is liberating black & brown people & low-income people from prison.." @CoryBooker rejects Sanders ideahttps://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/how-cory-booker-sees-himself-standing-out-from-the-crowded-2020-field#transcript …

When the media and political establishment that propped you up for years as “the future of the party” abandons you for Pete and Beto so you need to say something that will make the news

Perpetuation of the cycle. Bernie is the only candidate to unequivocally fight for the basic rights for inmates who are serving or have served, to re-enter the general population with a sense of empowerment through democracy. You’re gaslighting and you know it,

Did you read the transcript? “My focus is tearing down the system of mass incarceration, so that we don't even have to have the debate about people's voting rights, because they're not going to prison in the first place.” Why is BS trying to make everyone die on this molehill?
-
Nice thinking but people are already in prison without basic rights & he's making a false equivalency with Dylan roof and the Boston bomber. He knows exactly what he said. Bernie is not going to change his stance on giving these freedoms back to people.
-
Read the whole interview transcript. Cory makes clear his focus is on justice reform to get people currently in prison out & keep people from going in who shouldn’t +
-
he just wants to free tbone that's all. He should probably watch the way he phrases things then because that is not what came across. He didn't need to bring up the bomber or mass shooter either to make that point
-
Part of the point IS that you’re getting involved in a conversation about the shooter & the bomber if you push for allowing currently incarcerated people to vote as a presidential candidate—and that derails discussion of voting rights for ex-felons & of ending mass incarceration
-
He didn't even bring them up it was someone else that asked the question. He doesn't want voting rights for specifically them & it would benefit the disenfranchised much more than the few terrorists in jail. How is this not obvious?
-
He was asked the question because he expressed the opinion the previous week. He opened the can of worms—and surprise surprise, the can contains worms. It was entirely predictable… and entirely on-brand for Bernie to prioritize purity over progress.

Booker knew that Bernie had been focused on the same issue for years: “young black and brown people incarcerated for nonviolent crimes”(and now their voting rightsyet he chose to smear using that same ‘gotcha’ tactic thrown at him about terrorists voting. It’s the same as lying.

It's funny how this doesn't count as "negative campaigning" or "personal attacks" but everything Bernie says does count
