As a middle school aged boy without a father, I remember watching this tender scene from Boys N The Hood and wishing I had somebody like Furious Styles to show me the way. Nothing like this had ever been in film. John Singleton made this happen.pic.twitter.com/RQgTugIWqF

never seen this movie but it’s the first thing i’m bout to watch when i get home from work

This is required viewing for everyone. If you weren't alive yet in the 1991/the 90's this film was a touchpoint of that time, but also spoke to the black experience from so many different perspectives. I'd say Furious Styles was Laurence Fishbourne's best work, this film=classic.
-
I was born in 95 and shaun’s video clip was the first exposure i’ve had to the movie !! I’m always looking for movies/articles/media/people that can help me to better grasp the black experience in america. I’m white so obviously i can’t relate but i try my best.
-
That's actually wonderful to hear, good on you. I'm a mixed race black woman, I'll never know what it's like for a black man in this society, it's up to all of us, who are so inclined to understand to keep those eyes wide open & learn & grow. I'm sure you'll love this film.
-
i agree it’s up to us, those willing to understand and grow!! teamwork makes the dream work!! Can’t wait to get home and check it out... i think imma like it too
-

You’re in the right path & it’s terrific to see. Hope you enjoy it!

While most people will always associate Boyz N The Hood with the iconic Ricky getting shot scene, but for me this scene with Larry (Lawrence) Fishburne will always stand out. Still relevant now as it was then.

One of the greatest coming of age stories of all time. Singleton created an entire genre of film with his courage to make this movie. Pure genius.
-
Indeed. & he was only 23 when the film came out. It's easily one of the best film's ever done.

Are we just not going to mention Ricky carrying around and drinking from a milk carton?

Gainz. Always.

John Singleton was only 23-24 when he made this film. Think about that.

That scene was an education for me... I had never heard of gentrification before seeing this movie, not something I was ever taught.

I love this film. I showed it to my students for 15 years as part of a unit on masculinity. The brilliant

I need to watch it again. Watched it as a ten-year old French girl living on a farm in a very rural area and it was like science-fiction for me. I remember being so mystified by the whole thing.

This was epic! Gentrification hit early in communities of South Central LA, but is extremely commonplace today. Mad props to John Singleton. May he & his loved ones find peace & strength in this difficult time.

I know it's freaking terrible! We are in the middle of this crisis and it makes me so angry. The American dream is apparently for only those who can afford it.
