Let me put my political philosophy for presidential campaigns on the table. If you say you believe something today, but don't have a clear demonstrated history of fighting for that thing before the campaign, and are between 40-80 years old, I just don't believe you.

So many people are pointing out the fair criticism that although Bernie definitely cares about these things, his record doesn’t show major movement in these ideas. This is in fact one of my criticisms of him, even as a Bernie supporter. However, it is important to note(1/)
-
When compared to the other candidates we have, Bernie has absolutely been the most consistent, since long before he had need to, about socially progressive issues. He didn’t just wake up one day and jump on the bandwagon, in fact he was arguable the starter of said movement.(2/)
-
But again one would ask, then why hasn’t he done much? It’s a good question, but lets think about what he was up against. For a long time he was practically the only progressive Soc Dem to have a seat in a government position. Many of the ideas he advocated for were(3/)
-
Unpopular in the eras he spoke about them. To me, his lack of putting things forward was less of, “I actually don’t care,” but more of, “my ideas are outnumbered, why waste time and money trying to pass legislation that will likely not pass?” This seems logical to me.(4/)
-
Another thing is I understand the argument of “he’s all talk no walk,” but again, logically, why would he advocated for such progressive ideas 24/7 if he didn’t really care or have a plan for them? That would seem extremely stupid and foolish.(5/)
-
So again, it is absolutely fair criticism to say he has been a bit more quiet on actually putting movement forward for his civil advocacies, but it seems more like a strategy to me. He clearly gets going on his ideas when he clearly can, as we saw with his Yemen legislature.

What's been his actual record on this after 35 years, some significant legislation please would be helpful in my decision making.

-
The thing about legislation is that it requires a whole bunch of other people to agree with him and vote with him to pass it. Unfortunately, the members of Congress don't agree with him because it affects their bottom line and does not appeal to the people that voted for them.
-
It takes the capacity to reach out to others and form coalitions something he's not able to do, which makes me pause and wonder can he run a country. I'm sure violence against women would have been a bipartisan issue, but he voted on a crime bill he criticized. Do separate bill
-
Yeah, it's amazing how the establishment has refused to consider a higher wage bill, a universal healthcare bill, etc., etc., etc. It's almost like they have never wanted to do those things to keep money flowing into their corporate investments and lobby firms.

I believe he fights for these things. He also voted for the 1994 crime bill.

Then concentrate on that! Concentrate on extolling the virtues of these contenders instead of tearing down the ones you don't like. At the end of the day, any of them is better than Trump.

While he's a millionaire and has 3 houses. "Do as I say, not as I do" is a perfect description of him. That makes him a hypocrite
-
A person can be a millionaire, buy 3 houses for his family, and be for social justice? What exactly did he do to deserve the ire?
-
Even though I create jobs I'm the bad guy for doing exactly the same thing...
-
Being wealthy isn't the issue. The issue is most of the time, the system allows for the wealthiest people to have so many tax breaks that they aren't paying the fair share of taxes. Tax legislation favors the wants of the few over the needs of the many.
