With that said, I believe Joe Biden is the most conservative & problematic candidate now officially in the race. In the 70s he fought against integration. In the 80s & 90s he fought harder for mass incarceration than any single Democrat. In the 2000s he voted for the Iraq War.
The best years of Joe Biden's political career were the 8 years he spent as Vice President of the United States. And that's mainly because he didn't get to set the agenda himself. When he sets the agenda - it has consistently been for more war & more jail. Period.
When I survey Biden's political career, I find it deeply problematic that he has to start out with an extensive apology for being wrong on some of the most important votes of the past 40 years. And that we have to believe those wrong votes don't actually represent him.
Here's Joe's pitch. Listen, I know I was wrong on integration, mass incarceration, Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas, and the Iraq War - but I'm from Scranton, have folksy charm, and Obama likes me. Therefore trust me on the things I've been wrong about my whole political career.
I am disturbed by anyone who says some version of "Let's not talk about the political voting records and stances of the candidates." The single GREATEST indication of what you will fight for (or against) tomorrow is what you fought for (or against) before you ran for office.
My sincere prediction about Biden's campaign is this: 1. He will avoid specifics like the plague because he's basically against every major progressive policy out right now. 2. He will avoid interviews & Q&A's not just to limit gaffes, but to avoid answering all hard questions
Will @JoeBiden join every other leading Democrat (except for @PeteButtigieg) in rejecting donations from lobbyists?
Will @JoeBiden support making public colleges & universities tuition free?
Will @JoeBiden support massive student loan forgiveness?
Will @JoeBiden support raising the taxes on the super-rich?
Will @JoeBiden support the fight for a $15 minimum wage?
Will @JoeBiden speak out against police brutality?
Obama wasn’t so hot himself. Why you giving him a pass like he had some great agenda? He was a war monger in corporatist too. He destroyed Libya and bailed out wall st. Over main st. And how he didn’t declare a federal emergency and send AC engineers into Flint to fix the water!
He ignored Standing Rock too. Although the Sioux tribe was begging for his help. They begged for help from Hillary too. Only Tulsi and Jill Stein stood with the Sioux tribe.
Your agenda is based on your friends in politics. It’s cool support your people but try doing it w/o putting other dems down. That’s a form of divisiveness that the party doesn’t need.
Who cares about the party if they are just going to screw us? We need a President and a Congress that will stand up to corruption and the rich, regardless of their party. We need to care about the policies, not identity politics or partisanship.
Your statement makes it sound like those 8 years were somehow different. Those 8 years featured more wars, more spying, more drones, more corporatocracy, pretty much more everything that is bad for this country. Those 8 years are not a positive for Biden. Far from it.
Nor anyone else such as Barack Obama, who dutifully continued killing millions of innocent women & children via Dubya's fabricated M.E. wars.
