Over the course of a single year in the United States, over 10 million people are incarcerated. TEN MILLION. That’s twice as much as any other nation in the world. At the root of mass incarceration is voter suppression. Always has been.

You don’t get to choose who has the right to vote based on how much you love or hate them. To bring up Dylann Roof up in the argument against voting rights is a ruse to distract from the larger argument that stripping voting rights while incarcerated harms Black people the most.

As a Mainer I can assure folks that recognizing the right of incarcerated people to vote (as it has done quietly without controversy for a LONG time)has not led to the decline and fall of civil society in Maine. Just sayin ‘.

Oh that's a great idea! Let's give ALL of an incarcerated felon's rights back! If there's no reason to revoke their voting rights, there's no reason to revoke their gun rights, or allow warrantless searches and seizures of their cells, etc.

Sorry I can’t think that way. There’s no benefit to never having gone to prison except of course not being locked up for a time.
