So yes, Maine & Vermont are right to ensure all citizens, including incarcerated citizens, have the right to vote. At the root of this discussion is the reality that most public officials don’t view incarcerated men & women as fully human (or fully American).

You don’t get to choose who has the right to vote based on how much you love or hate them. To bring up Dylann Roof up in the argument against voting rights is a ruse to distract from the larger argument that stripping voting rights while incarcerated harms Black people the most.

At the root of mass incarceration is white supremacy and money
-
It’s all money and power. Voter suppression is a part of that. Particularly if you study the original laws
-
I can dig it. Michelle Alexander speaks on it in The New Jim Crow.

"At the root of mass incarceration is voter suppression" and racism and slavery and separation of families and now, prisons for profit.

Prisoners, convicts and inmates are counted in U.S. Census data! The incarcerated must not be counted in the U.S. Census with no vote when they benefit gerrymandered districts! We The People are sick and tired of this hypocrisy! Thank you for wisdom

Meh.... The root is slave labor. The root of it the ENORMOUS loophole in the middle of the 13th Amendment, which allows for slavery, if you have been convicted of a felony. Voter suppression is just the icing on the cake.

This is EXACTLY how I view it. Thanks for being clear on it. Bernie needs to do the same thing sooner than later. I also believe that question was a setup by corporate Dems. In fact, the whole thing felt that way.

How many have been aborted? The root of mass I hasn't been because of voter suppression. It was because bill Clinton signed those laws to incarcerate what Hillary Clinton called "super predators". But hey, Trump signed for prison reform. Imagine that, Not Obama but Trump.
-
Well, it did start b4 Clinton but I agree. Clinton locked up more black people than anybody. If you look at Clinton policies, he was a Republican.

Think about this... China has almost 6X more people, yet we jail more than 2X as many people each year. And the vast majority are POC who are targeted, to support the prison industry and keep them from voting....
-
In the last 15 years or so, incarceration has become a thriving industry available to the connected capitalist.
