He realized his mistake. He provided incentives for people in poorer areas to fix up their homes including a $2 million grant program for home repair and a $2 million program to provide affordable housing. Also $1 million for +programs after hearing fears of gentrification.

The vast majority of those fined were absentee and institutional owners who just held properties ask risk-based assets on spreadsheets. The much fewer local owners/investors spoke up and Buttigieg listened to them and worked with them on exception bases and created a new program.

Do you think he sincerely intended to fine people of color though? I can’t even fathom it was intentional. I’m not at all saying it is fair or right I just can’t imagine Pete being like oh yeah let’s do this to people of color.

I guess as I read what I wrote I should acknowledge the privilege he has by not recognizing that this is/was an issue. Sigh. Fuck. This is why we need more REAL people from diverse backgrounds running. What I wouldn’t give for someone with an ass ton of student loan debt to run

I feel this wasn’t asked “sincerely.” If it were, you would be unsure as to his answer. But do you think he’s going to answer, “yes, it’s a great practice.” If you want to call him out, by all means. But don’t veil your call out saying you’re asking sincerely when you’re not.
