I can clearly see the moment that Trump and conservatives doubled down on their harassment of Ilhan Omar.
It was when leading Democrats like @LeaderHoyer & others decided they'd join in.
Once leading Democrats joined in, conservatives knew they could go all in - and they did.

Not quite. The political calculus atbwork here is that Trump is trying to drive a wedge in the Democratic coalition by painting then as the party of Omar and AOC. Leadership doesn’t want that, they want to control their own narrative, so they’re trying to not swing at every pitch
