Because this whole “lesser of the evils” dynamic is troubling.

Me, too. Then Bernie Sanders wouldn't have to associate with a party that obviously hates him, & neither would his supporters. I want to be completely free from the Dems at this point, & hell would freeze over before I went Republican. I need somewhere else to go...

...another party that can be competitive!

Big money ruined the US political system. There are too many people that sleepwalk through life and just do what they are told. They are afraid to push back against the status quo and believe that the elite somehow know better than them. It’s not true.
-
When do you think the political system was good and why?

It would be nice to have a functioning system of checks and balances as well.

Rendered near-impossible in a winner-take-all one person, one vote voting system. If a third party emerges, it does so to consume a withered, weakened second political party.

With a 3rd or 4th VIABLE option you couldn't have the electoral college..it would have to be straight popular vote for the President and proportional representation..

It is so annoying, we get trapped in the dilemma of not wanting to split the vote (arguably what happened in 2016) and elect the worst option, but we also really know that the, in essence, one and one half party system doesn't really generate fundamental change

What has always baked my noodle, in Canada we do have 3rd and 4th party options but it still somehow comes down to a 2 pony race. That's about white

That starts downballot. They need to win local elections and gain traction. You can’t viably have a 3&4 option jump right in at the presidential level. They have no name recognition.
