Those tweets do not say he wouldn't support it. He just said he doesn't think that's the fastest achievable way to get to universal health care. Am I misreading?

No you are correct. He wants expanded Medicare... With people still being able to purchase private insurance.. Or keep their employer insurance if they choose to. It is of note that this is the exact healthcare system that Australia has and it works well.
-
Which.... is not Medicare for ALL! it is Medicare for SOME. Private insurance must go if we want to fix this broken FOR PROFIT system. the system should be about HEALTH CARE not Health Insurance.

Here is what Beto actually said, rather than what you say he said.pic.twitter.com/tCC8n2yhw7

This is some of the most pandering shit I've ever heard. He is now on board with a program that uses Medicare to subsidize private health insurance, but leaves open the possibility that "over time" they can shift to Medicare. Which is really hypothetical and not an actual plan.

He never supported it. Never. He was in congress for 6 years and never once supported John Conyers' Medicare for All bill. Beto lied when he was running against Ted Cruz. He was just saying whatever it took to get elected, just like most politicians.
-
He pretended to support it so he could get interviews with Ryan Grim and Cenk Uygur. That’s how he got his first small donations before getting bundled money from the boards of oil companies.

Beto’s voting record shows he is a conservative Democrat. He’s obviously better than Cruz, but he can be discounted quickly if voters want real change.
