The bootstrap theory was always for those looking on the outside.

If there’s one thing I’m taking from this story it’s that there’s an inherent and intangible value to HBCUs and women’s colleges that operate under a mission rather than operating as a brand. It’s calls into question the intent of higher ed writ large as a public good.

It’s beyond offensive, but what I hope comes out of this is a well deserved discounting of the value of an elite education. Sure you can get amazing academic opportunities at an Ivy, but it’s no different than anywhere else where hustle and grit should open far more doors.

The US has a rigged economy that benefits, almost exclusively, the rich.

Agree and the SAT and ACT should be abolished as data for admission to college. No correlation between SAT/ACT scores and success in college.

So...if the kids didn’t get there on their own merits, then tell them “bye”. Give the student who was next on the list that spot. Especially if they only want to go there to party and be seen on College Game Day TV.
-
Well how will Colleges add to their endowments if Rich people can't bribe their kids into College?

Also note how affluent high schools offer SAT prep at no or low cost. Another those who gots-get-more facts of life. And, without college experience in the family, you might not know about the importance of SAT prep, even if you could afford it.

Not only do the 1% get BIGG tax breaks, they lie and bribe elite schools, then list it as a contribution on their damn taxes! Now they will APOLOGIZE and suffer no consequences for their dirty deeds!

I’ve been out of high school for 24 years. I don’t remember SAT prep courses and tutors being a thing when I took it. We just took the PSAT, the SAT, and the ACT if wanted to take that one. The pressure on kids these days is awful. And the uneven playing field is despicable.

50 years, with Vietnam looming. Couldn't afford bone spurs or college via bribery.

Everyone I know who has gotten miles ahead of their counterparts in this country has done so by not playing fair and not following the rules/laws. TRUTH.
