Please note even if they did pay taxes, it wouldn't be enough to cover Medicare or the GND.

Of course not, but it would pay a part of each.

Agreed. People need to stop relying on huge corporations like Netflix, Amazon etc. - it's fine to be outraged, but we need to stop giving them our custom.
-
Netflix offer a good service at a fair price. If the tax system allows them to pay no tax, change the system, which is clearly flawed. Hold to account the representatives who vote in tax laws made to benefit the rich and corporations, not the people legally paying less or no tax.
-
That's fair to a point. Big corporations tend to find a way, though - by re-locating (on paper) to tax havens like Luxembourg etc.- the EU recently fined Apple billions of dollars, but they are contesting it. Corporations are complicit, not innocent bystanders.
-
Corporations still make choices. Some seek the tax loopholes harder than others. But in the end, if what they did was legal, it's the law that needs to be targeted, and specifically the corporations who contribute to political campaigns, because they're the ones influencing law.

Shaun, 2 things here: 1- This is accounting profit, netflix actually had negative cash flow of $3Bn and has never in its history been cash flow positive. 2- They might be carrying forward losses from previous years (merely a hypothesis as I haven’t researched this)
-
Also using a Daily Mail article as a source means you are quite likely being misled about something.

And I have to cut back on food because my rent and car payments have gone up but not my salary in 3 years....
-
How did your car payment go up? Should be a certain length contract typically. Rent usually goes up once a year sometimes. Usually it doesnt.
-
Because my lease ended, which was very low, and I had to get a new one or be without a car.

By all metrics of human flourishing, the US with all its flaws rates at the top. Yes there are problems some systemic but you’ve got plenty of good news since 1776

Disgusting is kind of harsh for someone playing the system in a way it was built. Netflix didn’t make the tax code, lawmakers did.

Netflix only did what it was allowed to do. The loophole was there, they used it. How's the saying go 'Hate the game not the player"
-
Ok cool so when we get that 70% marginal tax in we can fund the irs enough so they have the man power and infrastructure needed to close up these loopholes and go after companies that exploit them. :)
