Public schools are not a monopoly. Charter schools are privatization PR scheme.
If there was a prohibition of school choice, why wouldn't you consider public schools to be a monopoly? Why do you think parents choose to send kids to charter schools?
Because the public schools in their areas have been marred by defunding and neglect. When something is publicly owned it is by definition not a monopoly.
Fine, I’ll concede on the categorization, but I’d rather have a monopoly owned by all of us, than oligopolies benefitting a handful of wealthy elites.
“Owned by all of us” is often more like “some being owned by others.” While your education policy is one example of collective control over individuals, a more glaring example is social security, where older people own a portion of younger people’s production.
