Its so the rail wont break or pull apart because of the cold temps..rail pulls when cold, runs together when hot

There doing this so the rails dont pull apart or break.. cold temps cause train tracks to pull aprt or break.. hit temps make the rail run together at times to much causing kinks & derailments
