It took the @nytimes hiring Michelle Alexander for this essential piece to finally be written.
It’s time, past time, to break the silence on the apartheid oppression of Palestine.https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/19/opinion/sunday/martin-luther-king-palestine-israel.html …

In fact, When he was an Op-ed editor at the NYT, Seaton even did his best to try to whitewash Marwan Barghouti's biograpical sketch by describing the founder of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, who was convicted of murdering 5 people, as a "Palestinian leader and Parlimentarian."

Fortunately, back then, the NYT had a Public Editor to provide some oversight, Seaton was overruled, and an Editors Note that more accurately described Barghouti's background was appended to the Op-ed. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/18/public-editor/an-op-ed-author-omits-his-crimes-and-the-times-does-too.html … …pic.twitter.com/BNkE9Biqo0

Good of you to reply. Point being: laudable though Michelle Alexander’s stand is, and welcome though her place at the NYT is, nothing substitutes for the subaltern speaking! (Oh, and I took some flak for helping to platform these voices.)
