I believe this is the longest that the USA has been without a president also.
This government shutdown just became the longest government shutdown in American history. Utterly shameful for Donald Trump to be doing this. 800,000 people just missed their paycheck, essential departments are not functioning properly, and National Parks are being destroyed.

I think he wanted that distinction, so he can say he caused the longest shutdown with all his winning. I think he believes it will be a good thing for him next year.

Not to mention the domino effect on local economie like groceries, childcare, cleaning services, gas stations, and of course the banks who aren't going to get a whole lot of mortage and rent checks deposited.

Actually the longest shutdown was in 96 with 21 days. If the government is still shut down on Monday it will be the longest

The House and Senate voted to give federal workers back pay whenever the federal government reopens and then left town for the weekend, leaving the shutdown on track to become one for the record books once the clock struck midnight and the closure entered its 22nd day.

I was in imperial county Tuesday, the check points are manned but they just waved everyone through, nobody stopped no cars searched. NO invasion to be seen though.
