The narrative of “this wasn’t racism, sports have rules” doesn’t hold up when the ref is late, doesn’t do his job, and then takes it out on the athletes.

The job of a ref is to preside over the game from a neutral point of view. At the first sign of racism he should have been removed. Therefore not only is he to blame, but so is every one of his superiors who stood by and did nothing for years while his behavior continued.

There's power in numbers. Trayvon's parents got to see that. Instead of asking for privacy, they should have said, we need your help to continue to hold those in power accountable and to help make proper and respectful change. Now isn't the time to stand alone.

The coach should have forfeited the match the second that referee mentioned cutting his hair. Forfeit and fight it later but let that child keep his dignity.

Simple question..... did the referee enforce a rule that was on the books?
-
He used a rule as his excuse, but his interpretation was faulty. Natural hair is allowed but a hair covering is sometimes requured. He declared locks "not natural" AND rejected the hair cover the kid brought. In any case, the coaches should've drawn a red line. They capitulated.
-
Now it's an excuse..... SOME dreads are natural but most arent in the USA....the process takes so long. Let's just be real
