Disgusting and heartbreaking. A referee known for his racism, Alan Maloney (google him), made high school wrestler Andrew Johnson cut off his dreads or lose the match. They were covered and gave him no advantage. So he cut them off. He won the match. Never should’ve been allowed.pic.twitter.com/ChMXPBzHPk

So a referee violating the rules tries enforce the rules? Unconscionable. The team should have stood up for this young man. Taking blame away from them closes a door of potentially legal liability here. They should fire this lawyer who should have left the “support” part out.

“Late to the meet” That referee is the word incompetent personified. Remove him. Revoke his certification.

What a beautiful family. I hope they--especially Andrew--find some peace from this nasty event.

It’s interesting how we are trained not to question authority. Good people standby watching bad things. When we realize what’s happened we are upset with ourselves and each other.

Just find it hard to believe that with all the adults in the building that situation couldn’t have been remedied on the spot in a way that avoided the young man having to cut his hair. Ridiculous

I find it commonplace that this young man has a supportive family...That's what we as Black Families do, unlike what the media tries to show!!! Yes, the referee bears the brunt of the disdain, but the coach and trainer need to take responsibility for their role in this atrocity!
-
Thank you. They need to be held accountable for their cowardice.
-
They stood up to the ref for Andrew
-
I'm not even trying to be contradictory, but if they stood up to him, hope did this happen?
-
the ref threatened to start the match without Andrew, the coaches and others protested but Andrew literally did it for the team. the ref was later suspended.

Beautiful family. The video is shameful and the scissor happy trainer should have refused to cut the poor boy’s hair. There was no need to do that goon’s bidding

Why are the coach and staff being attacked when the family supports them? I'm saddened and angry at this story. I feel so bad for him. I literally want to cry when I see this video

Despite his missing the mark on what this truly was, @MikeFrankelSNJ needs to be thanked for bringing this to the public’s attention. There were a lot of people in that gym, Black and white, but I didn’t see anything from them, or any outrage expressed.

Why didn’t the coach just grabbed all his guys and left and did a walkout protest. To me the coaching staff didn’t do much as I thought

I am deeply disappointed with his white teammate for not condemning the referee the coach for letting this taking place.

Nah. The coach & staff are responsible for this b.s. too. They were there to lookout for this kids best interests in the stead of his parents. They need some discipline & training too.pic.twitter.com/J9sypfVG2b
