I will never forgive or forget that a 7 year old girl died of thirst, shock, and exhaustion in the custody of American law enforcement. It is a gross human rights violation. A form of genocide. The basic compassion & dignity she deserved has been removed by this government.

Her name is Jakelin. Her full name is: Jakelin Amei Rosmery Caal Maquin. She was a 7 year old girl from rural Guatemala and she died of thirst and shock in American custody. This is a sin. It’s a crime and a sin. Shame on Trump and this bigoted cold hearted government.

Read this. America is not living up to its core promise. The words on our Statue of Liberty describe 7 year old Jakelin so well. She was tired and poor and yearning to breathe free. She was homeless and needed refuge. And our government let her die of thirst and shock.pic.twitter.com/AyUNz4xvzt

In November, Border Patrol agents apprehended a record 25,172 “family unit members” on the southwest border. Overwhelmed. Not enough resources. Sad story but ultimately it is the parents fault. And those who continue to encourage and pay for these caravans.

"Not enough resources" to give water and check vitals of *children* upon apprehension *in the desert*? We spent tens of millions of dollars to send the Army to the border, but we can't afford bottled water? You need a new talking point. That one's embarrassing.

Food and water are typically provided to migrants in Border Patrol custody, and it wasn’t immediately clear Thursday if the girl received provisions and a medical exam before the onset of seizures. We do not know what happened yet. I do know we didn't put her in that position.

Oh but we did. United States has a history of funding and interference to deliberately destabilize governments in Central America which directly led to the terrors they are fleeing. We have a responsibility to care for these people.

Our work to destabilize the southern half of this hemisphere start long before Obama. Let's also talk about all of the white presidents who started and fostered this work. Reagan was the originator of the "war on drugs" but he was not mentioned...

Oh it started back with Reagan. Maybe earlier. George H Bush was responsible for a vast number of terrible things in South and Central America.

On sunny days, store owners place water dishes in front of their shops for dogs to drink. Civilian vigilantes destroyed gallons of water some good samaritans had left in strategic spots for parched migrants. We didn't just discover that mammals get thirsty.

I've been reading certain libertarian & alt-right tweeters blame the parents of this child, she shouldn't have been brought here in such a condition. They don't stop to think things were so bad at home, she had to be brought here - to safety. I'm ashamed of this country.

She was severely malnourished and dehydrated, this was happening far before she was in the custody of Law Enforcement, they did everything they could to save this little girl. So maybe just stop to fucking think for a second, and stop jumping to conclusions

Every stop to ask why they are running from Guatemala in the first place? America played its part in destroying Guatemala, the nerve to now not want them to seek asylum here. Look at what Ronald Reagan did, worst policies aimed at destroying Latin America as usual!

When you demonize and dehumanize migrants as an “infestation” and warn that they consist of “criminals” and “terrorists,” border agents MIGHT not take their health and safety as seriously as if a policy of empathy and charity were coming from the top of the house.
