My default political position is that I will be endorsing Bernie Sanders if he runs for President. I start there. Before I do that, though, I am going to study each candidate, their platforms, positions, and the staff they hire, and then make my actual decision after that.

I'm not gonna dismiss the need for diversity in a politician's senior staff but be very wary of a diverse set of faces touting bad policy. The DNC is very good at using identity politics as a Trojan horse to perpetuate practices that cause immeasurable harm to POC every day.

If he could talk
@RepBarbaraLee into being his running mate, that'd pretty much do the trick for me. Slam-dunk in fact. -
@RepBarbaraLee,@ninaturner,@staceyabrams. There's a lot of progressive black women that all make exceptional presidents themselves. If Bernie were to win nomination he'd be a damn fool not to pick one of them as his running mate. That's assuming one of them isn't the nominee. -
No, I wouldn't argue this at all, just that Lee's my first choice.

Not white men: Off top of my head: Arianna Jones, Chuck Rocha, Rich Pelletier, Symone Sanders,Julia Barnes, Dulce Saenz, Arun Chaudhury,Joan Kato, Marcus Ferrell, Nina Turner, & many more. Is he allowed ANY white men? Genuinely asking: who’s on your approved senior staffer list?
-
Why would he put this out there & direct it solely at one person. Why wouldn’t he say, “if any candidate does ‘x’ I will support someone else.” Right when NYT et al. is reviving white bro narrative, this unnecessary framing is just fodder for correct the record bots. 1/
-
Also, the orig. post said he’d look at the candidate, platform positions, staff, & make a decision from there. Well this seems to say that the candidate & platform are secondary. So if Manchin campaigns & hires all conservatives, but they’re black, that’s who he’ll support? 2/
-
If he runs w/Nina or Barbara Lee, but campaign staff don’t meet his criteria, that’s a deal breaker? Lastly, these events haven’t even happened yet. I’m sure it won’t be a homogenous staff, & current allies are the most diverse ever. But cross that bridge when it happens IMO. 3/3

Democratic identity politics is the single best hope the Republicans have for keeping the White House in 2020.

Bernie has the strongest chance, and is the progressive with the best name recognition. A lot of the shinier options (beto, harris, booker, gillibrand) are far more moderate or have strong ties to banks and other big corporations.

I think you do a tremendous job as an activist. That being said, it's a horrible idea for Democrats to nominate a 78 or 79 year old white man in 2020 who's an Independent.
-
If you think that's bad, you should see the alternatives the Democratic party's been floating...
-
Harris, O'Rourke, and others will be fine. They'll generate much more energy that the party needs and is more reflective of what the party actually looks like.
-
Uh huh. What do their platforms look like? Are they progressive, or are they 'progressive' now that they're thinking about running for President? A growing segment of the electorate are not going to support another corrupt, flip-flopping, neo-liberal Clinton analog.

bernie can do whatever he wants. i care more about his immigration policy than him having some random latino on his staff. u do what u want; just know that if u support someone else, we will run over them (and you) without any hesitation whatsoever.

Just by defaulting to Sanders, suggests you have already made a choice despite the what ifs. Moving on.

Baseline Yardstick Benchmark Touchstone He is where we will start to measure the 2020 field. Knowing the players, I'm not hopeful anyone younger will match or surpass the bar he sets for me.

He didn't do that last time. He had People of Color in senior staff positions. Doubt he would do it this time.

If?...why is the question even coming up? What were his hires for the 2015/2016 campaign run? What about Nina Turner earning the helm of Bernie's
