Wow, this story is deep but I’m not surprised by the decision to fire Mader after my 21 years in law enforcement. This is a classic case of “the good ole boys network” taking place! #OnceACop #keepitrightnotreal

It is amazing story. I learned so much from it. It highlights how police officers need to be trained to deescalate situations especially where there is a mental health problem. It is a human rights violation to kill someone because they have a medical problem.

This report is not only intriguing & informative, it includes video that is just as interesting. Some of these cops are flying on the seat of their pants. In the military, everybody's a hero until bullets start flying. Here, w/o bullets fired at them, 2 officers lost their nerve.

Pretty sickening story. This stood out to me: "Mader got on the radio. It had been roughly 10 seconds, he estimated, from the moment the two backup officers arrived at 119 Marie until the shooting started."

I remember this story well. Shaun, watch this video, which shows how cops with physical skills are less likely to use their guns. Watch the whole thing.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlpX1DwEB1k …

WTF wow, just wow! But then again I’m surprised that I should know how it works. As a retired law enforcement employee, I know better but it still ceases to amaze me.

Police departments need to be held accountable. What are some solutions that have been tried? It would be great to have a template for community action that we could use to engage with local police departments and mayors offices etc..

I agree. I read the initial article when it happened. I’ve wondered many times what happened to the families and people involved. Such a tragedy like all the others. I grew up in that area. Change is slow, but I truly believe that pieces like this one push change along.

Shaun is now advocating that cops let people point guns at them and just hope that it won’t turn out bad.

Heard that Chicago cops have (secret) quotas of Random arrests in poor neighborhoods. So threatening - Some look for jobs elsewhere in order not to participate.
