Trump's argument is nutty, but there is a bit more to it than what you've described. I'm not justifying Trump at all. We should just understand what Trump is arguing. Trump argues that the "conflicted" Mueller is somehow coercing the "weak" Cohen to falsely admit crimes.

So this indicates, then, that Trump believes there would be enough evidence to convict Cohen. Can’t make this argument without believing that! But, I still have to bring up the point that people plead guilty to things they didn’t do for a multitude of reasons ALL. THE. TIME.
