"I think it would be hypocritical of me to vote...The oppressor isn't going to allow you to vote your way out of your oppression."
- @Kaepernick7
He's spot on. Criminals are not going to be 'voted' out of power.https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/colin-kaepernick-explains-why-he-didnt-vote-in-election-would-be-hypocritical/ …

Then why are the authoritarians working so hard to stop us from voting? If the votes didn't matter they wouldn't waste their time gerrymandering, hacking the voting machines, propagandizing, purging us from the rolls, etc.

As long as there's no accountability, voting is useless. Every election cycle politicians make big promises, break them, and nothing happens. People start defending them because "I voted for him, so I can't be wrong." See if they'll sign a contract with legal consequences.
-
The thing is, voting IS the accountability. It's the only real accountability we have in government.
-
If voting is the accountability, then explain why Barack Obama expanded illegal wars, illegal spying, crackdowns on whisteblowers, bailed out Wall Street, etc. when he was given a mandate by the voters to do the exact opposite. There's no accountability tied to it whatsoever.
-
I'm not saying voters are good at holding politicians accountable. In general, they are not. I'm saying voting is all we have in a peaceful democracy. I can't image how LESS voting would hold the powerful accountable. What is your solution to the issues you raise above?
-
I've stated my solution. Have candidates sign contracts with the public that would have severe consequences if they breached them. When businesses conduct business with each other, they sign contracts to ensure each operates in good faith. The same should hold for politicians.
-
I wish we could do that, but who would enforce that contract? The UN? Some other country?

I recall Americans voted to end illegal wars, close Guantanamo, end torture and the crackdown on whistleblowers, and only got more under
#Obama, so apparently voting does not work. It's the criminal bait and switch politicians that are dishonoring everyone.pic.twitter.com/gzeSmYfW3r

Maybe if they didn’t rig the DNP against Bernie and try to get me to vote for Hilary “Super-Predator” Clinton’s pandering a$$ then subsequently try to guilt-trip folks for NOT voting for her nor Trump, I’d feel that it mattered more. Also: Electoral College is BS
-
Here u and agree with you on the rigging of Bernie, but still got to get out here and vote to make the changes on the local level where the laws affect us on a day to day basis (local bonds and initiatives; the judges making life changing decisions for people, etc.)
-
I’m voting, Brian. The midterms are low-key much more important to me than the presidential election. We have a real chance to change this state in the South and I won’t miss my chance. Just stating I was disrespected as a voter for not choosing Hilary as if my vote didn’t matter
-
Though all the voter suppression and long lines, did your part!
Will be doing the same on Nov. 6! -
It took us a little over an hour, but it felt really good.

#VotingRightsDay needs to be a holiday weekend that guarantees one day off during a three-day timespan every year so that we: 1. Reflect on the sacrifices of those who fought for the right to vote 2. Increase the number of votersThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Agree. The fight was too hard for too many for people to just sit on the sidelines and complain. Voting is not 100% perfect but not voting is 0%.

I agree too. People of color died for us to vote even after we were given the right to vote. In the South states implemented poll tax, test, and other discriminatory measures to keep us from exercisimg our right to vote. I have been voting since I was 18 I am now 54.
