For those hanging on “absent Black fathers,” refer them to ‘The Color of Welfare’ by Jill Quadagno. A social policy history on poverty relief. The big blow was Nixon bowing to southern senators demand that welfare could only be received if no man was at all present in a household

Thank you! They set up a system that limits resources if a man is in the home, then paint that man as a deadbeat if he stays out of the home. The film "Claudine" captured it beautifully! Our welfare system isn't designed to help people get off it, but to keep them trapped in it.
