What kind of a person would adopt a child under these conditions? Knowing the pain and anguish the real parents are enduring?

Trump's base, who believe that they do these kids a service by raising them in "good American families" instead of their birth families, just like what the US and Canada has done for years with indigenous kids. Even sadder is how many of them will do it just for the stipends.

The worst part, a lot of those adoptions will fall through because of behavioral issues stemming from past trauma, and a lot more are going to age out of the system after growing up in foster care and group homes. The only kids I can foresee being "in demand" are infants < 12 mo.

Any American who would adopt these children are just as guilty as the administration who separated them from their parents and inprisoned them. This needs to STOP!!!

There's a good chance that, outside of the rich as hell ones, normal people adopting them won't even know unless the child tells them themselves. And if the child tells them themselves, I would wager what's being done in the places they're being kept gets changed.

Horrifying. One problem with that AP article: It is downplaying the scale of this issue. According to the NYT, there were 12,800 migrant children being held in September and it’s up to 13,000 this month (so far).

Again I ask: there are zillions of state child welfare laws. ANY state agency (usually 2-3 are in charge per state) could just start raiding the camps, and especially the private contract ones, and taking the children, following the law and morals.
