I know I may be setting myself up for disappointment, but I truly believe Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke is going to be found guilty for the murder of Laquan McDonald today. It may be 2nd degree, but I believe he’ll be found guilty. I refuse to lose all hope.

Justice done. Sad how unusual it is that it actually comes through.
-
I really think that the judge, by giving the jury leeway to convict of second degree, ensured a conviction. Justice.
-
Whatever it takes. Can address the lesser charge by going to the top of the sentence range.

Keep pressure on judge, for sentencing phase. He could get probationpic.twitter.com/pjU9ZfEHVS
-
True, but he has to serve each 6 year aggravated battery sentence consecutively. Sixteen charges of six years each gives him 96 years.
-
THANK GOD. Judge needs to stake it, rack him up. In the state where I prosecute: the jury doles out the sentence. It’s awesome. I don’t trust judges to do the right thing.
-
This is what’s being said on the local news, anyway. I’m channel-hopping like a fiend trying to get more info. No probation with these charges, which are more serious than the second degree murder charge.
-
I hope so. BTW- my family farms soybeans, love your name.

Hahaha, thanks! It’s from a 10 year old radio ad for some wireless plan!

I'm sure you know, but there were many, many victories beside this conviction. 1) Chicago Police Accountability Task Force; 2) Garry McCarthy fired 3) Anita Alverez defeated 4) Rahm Emanuel not running for re-election. 5) Three officers charged in connection with the coverup.

It took a year and a lawsuit just to see the video. He had a lot of protection from superiors all the way up to the Mayor. They need to be held accountable also. Yes, Indeed, One step at a time.

Justice for a change. We must act proactively before we lose any more Laquans, Tamirs.... Holding police accountable for their corrupt and racist practices nationwide is critical. Intersectional Movement building needs to happen. TY for your tireless efforts for justice!

Is this real? I don't want to believe it only to have my hopes shattered. Now, can he be sentenced accordingly?

Guilty on all other charges except official misconduct.
-
I'm really curious how it's not official misconduct. Has anyone found breakdown of that? I have looked, but not found anything.
