A salient point should not be lost here: Amazon is doing this in advance of their busiest time of the year. Also, @NickHanauer should get some thanks for his push of the $15/hr wage.
Jeff Bezos admitted a real degree of failure here and openly stated that the critics were right and he was wrong. Doesn't mean he is a good person, nonetheless. the raise is nice and all but its still not even close to living on your own; not to mention the amount of horrid working conditions thousands of people have endured for years that are still in place.

Amazon, from what I have heard of, makes 85k a MINUTE. 275 million a DAY. $15 is nothing to them. That number should be HIGHER. Oh and did I forget to mention Amazon is highly anti-union? The list goes on, man. There is still plenty of other problems Amazin has going for it.

Important to remember that Bezos is part of a system of life-ruining exploitation. The occasional actions of some capitalists do not change that and the concession will be compensated for by shifting the intensity or locale of exploitation.
