Why would it make a difference if his door was unlocked and ajar? I honestly don’t understand. Is it legal to kill someone if their door is open?

I honestly don’t mean to be dense, but it’s not making sense to me. It’s your house and there’s no law that you have to keep the door shut/locked. But if you do someone can wander in, shoot you, and call it oops?

The apartment doors were self-closing which makes it impossible for them to be left open. Witnesses heard her banging on the door asking for someone to open the door, and not as a cop. Outside his door, there was a red mat; her apartment didn’t have a mat. So many lies.
