More times than not, local TV stations, like @Fox4 in Dallas, have such close relationships w/ police departments that they function like police propaganda machines.

I am TOTALLY NOT surprised. @FOX4 is a fox affiliate. I was wondering why the character hit took this long, especially using a drug that is LEGAL IN A FEW STATES. 
And they also won't report on certain major subjects like corruption in government agencies like this or child services either. It's gross.
Unlike print where you can learn the facts and walk away and write the story, for TV you need video footage and for that you need the cooperation of the local police. It is a very biased system driven by the demands of the medium.
