Here in New York, people don't openly talk much about 9/11. The pain is very real. When I worked at the Daily News, so many people in the newsroom either saw the devastation up close or even knew people who were killed on that horrible morning.

Every single day, my family and I walk or drive past multiple
@FDNY stations that lost men on 9/11. We are so humbled by the memorials for each of them. A staggering 343 firefighters died that day. An unbelievable loss.Show this thread

RIP Paul Ortiz Jr.
-
Did you know him? I just read about him when you posted his name.

My wife's very close cousin. Not sure if cousin through marriage makes any sense. Brilliant young man. Worked for Bloomberg. His daughter Rebecca got to read names at the memorial last year. All she knows of him is what people have told her.

What a loss. Thanks for sharing some of his story with me. Send his family my love.

I doubt I will ever visit the museum-- too painful, too many memories. Those of us who lived through it will carry it in our hearts forever. That is enough.

I remember standing on the Crossbay Bridge and watching the Towers smoke. Nothing erases that memory...

We were there this summer. As soon as we walked up, I said to my kids: now mommy is going to cry. It was overwhelming.pic.twitter.com/a6hhWHAIQh

Have been there a couple of times-VERY poignant feelings of sacred awe and sadness. Remember the display of the gift of a herd of cows, the ultimate cultural symbol of condolence, from the Masai tribe to the USA. Unexpectedly touching!

The 9/11 Museum is overwhelming. Because it's a historical event that isn't too far in the distant past, it's powerful and it pulls no punches.

Seventeen years later and still 0 of the masterminds of 9/11 have faced a trial.
#CloseGitmo and push this to federal courts where there will be closure. - 3 more replies
