This is absolutely infuriating. This sharp young Black boy, clean as ever, gets kicked out of school because he has dreads. His father rightfully struggles to maintain his emotions at the disappointment of it all.pic.twitter.com/WOpUGLqg8l

Young Black boy w/ dreads kicked out of school because of his hair
This is absolutely infuriating. It's simply a form of white nationalism and white supremacy embedded into the rules of this school.

Here's Day #2 of the first day of school for this young king. Thankfully a new school welcomed him, his style, and all of his hair - with open arms.pic.twitter.com/ryOYnTlMYQ

LOOK AT THIS. This is from a promo video for the Florida school that kicked a 6 year old Black boy out because “his hair was below his ears.” Looks like the white boys have hair below their ears.pic.twitter.com/N56bcVSiCh

PLEASE help me to understand how this child’s hair has ANY bearing on his right to a free and appropriate education? What did this child just learn?

If this is a private intitution and he is on scholarship They can pretty much do whatever they want . I hope he and his parents learned if it does not kill you it makes you stronger

If it is a private institution that receives federal or state monies, it cannot discriminate in this way. If no federal or state dollars find their way into the coffers, the school can be as exclusionary as it wishes.

It was clear as day, they didn’t want the kid there. Dr. Umar talks about how racist middle age white women are all the time, and we keep giving them our boys to teach.

I'm becoming increasingly convinced that white women, as much as (maybe even more than) white men, continue racism. Not all or even most directly, but in subtle and also insidious ways that influence and energize white men (and boys).

There is no reason to place white women on some moral pedestal. They can be just as racist as white men. It's safe to say about half of white people are outright racist (based on support of Rump poll data) and another half are at least trying to deal with their implicit bias.

Sure, I just think that people tend to think more of racist men than racist women when they think of racism, maybe b/c you see hate crimes committed more or much more by men. I do, at least, but maybe that's just me.

And one shouldn't imagine that his father just happens to have his entire day free. The potential cascade effects here are devastating.

yes, his dad may have to work. I'm not sure about the school's dress code'. Dad is trying to get the best education 4 his son. The other school may put in barriers so many black kids can't come.

As I listen to this fathers pain...I strive not to cry. As I listen to people okay with the fact that this being "the rules" and in the name of God...what about Sampson? disgusts me. Salute to this father for keeping his cool, standing his ground, and uplifting his son!

I went to Catholic School from K-12. Boys were not allowed to have long hair-they basically could have it only a little longer than a buzz cut. Sucks but that’s how many Christian/Catholic schools roll. That’s why my kids don’t go to them:)
