1. First and foremost, we should care about families being forcefully separated at the border because what is happening there is pure, unadulterated evil and Dr. King was right, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

2. What we see happening to immigrant families at the border is nothing but a new expression of white supremacy. White supremacy is the undergirding philosophy at work in this injustice - they are just finding other ways to express it.

3. What we see happening to immigrant families at the border is just another expression of mass incarceration - which we know full well is our enemy. When that system grows, we must always make it our business to fight back.

4. A huge percentage of immigrants to the United States are Black - including tens of thousands, more like hundreds of thousands, of people who've been targeted and deported. Many of the families being separated at the border are also Black.

5. Lastly, solidarity cannot be a game of chicken, where one group only steps up to help when they perceive the other group has done A,B, or C before they support them. We support people who've been wronged, who are experiencing injustice, because they need the help. Period.

The idea that something has to affect you and yours in order to be relevant is disgusting.

It’s totally normal. Not good. But normal. We’re tribal animals. We’re wired to look after our own.... and our sports teams.
-
Not wired. We are born to love and care about everyone. We are taught to be tribal.

I believe what we do to other ppl from anywhere else in their suffering is what we stand for in this country. I cannot walk in these ppl's shoes; therefore, my "safe" hand must be extended to help them find theirs.

I haven't heard black folks saying this but I have heard A TON OF WHITE FOLKS say this. They will literally point to any problem (veteran homelessness) and say this must be a priority over immigrants but then later do not care about the veteran homeless either. Why Not Both?

When something is inhumane, it is the responsibility of all humans to oppose it. When something is intolerable, it MUST not be tolerated. It doesn't matter who or where the victims are! This distresses me greatly From a pakeha (white) woman in New Zealand

I think indifference to these situations is the reason where are here today. We can’t continue to be so indifferent to other people’s pain.
