I absolutely believe John Lee Cowell targeted & tracked his victims (two young Black women) chose to kill them in the brutal manner in which he did, and made no real attempt at fleeing the city - all on purpose. It was not random. It was a targeted, planned attack.
The @latimes got this right calling this a "prison-yard style" murder.
The cops on the scene and witnesses on the scene agree. It was precisely like this.

There are other places that fit that point, for example in east Oakland. In Macarthur's favor is that there's a construction site where one can get ready and shed clothing as he did, and also is a very busy neighborhood where one could disappear.
It's a main transfer point for the entire system. He was coming from Concord, & caught in Pleasant Hill - he would have needed to change train lines to go anywhere in east Oak.
YES. I believe he was outside the station. He stabbed her and her sister as Nia was helping an old woman get her stroller through the turnstyle. He'd stored spare clothes at the construction site, and changed into them after the stabbing. BUT that's also a part of it.
And arrested without a scratch, probably bought him an espresso cuz booking would make him tired.

I'd also like to provide the context that the MacArthur BART stop is strategically the place you'd choose if you wanted to kill literally any black person and escape the scene. It is a station where a vast majority of onboarding and offboarding riders are black.
